Rose Cake.

Pictured cake by Ron Ben-Israel .  Photo credit: Ngoc Minh Ngo.
(Clearly our cakes will never turn out this professional, but layering organic rose petals will create a similar look.)

Rose Petal Cake:
This recipe is simple and delicious.  Perfect for a girl thing.

Ingredients:
1 Cup butter softened
1 1/3 cups white sugar
5 very large eggs
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon almond extract
1 1/2 ounces finely chopped almonds
3 teaspoons rose water
2 drops red food coloring
2 cups all purpose flour
Instructions:
Preheat oven to 350 degrees, grease a nine inch tube pan.
Cream the butter very well. In a separate bowl beat sugar and eggs together until they have doubled their volume. Sift the flour and add it along with the salt gradually.
Fold in creamed butter.
Divide batter into two equal parts, in one part add the almond extract and the ground almonds. To the other part add the rosewater and the red food coloring, place batters alternatively into the prepared pan.
Bake at 350 degrees for 50 to 60 minutes. Let cake cool then remove from pan and dust with confectioners sugar.

A thought : if you add just a tad of red food coloring into two cups of whipped cream, you'll have your frosting.  I like to make the top of the cake pink and then decorate with white rose petals.

Black and white look.

This is from a Ann-Sofie Back Atelje show.  She is a Swedish designer.  I'm loving the skirt's height and the way the model's legs and arms are covered up.

Before & After.

AFTER

BEFORE

What an incredible transformation.  From one of the ugliest night stands I've ever seen to one of the cutest toy kitchen's ever.  Makes me want to wave a magic wand into every single thrift store and turn all the ugly old wood furniture into darling, vintage inspired things for children.  I love the fabric selection for the little curtain and I love the "S" print.  This before & after is a total reminder that people call fresh white paint, "fresh", for a good reason; white paint just freshens up anything.  Anything. These pictures, with more explanation on what went down, is on the blog, http://www.vintagesongbird.blogspot.com/.  How I ended up there while trying to locate pictures of stylish tuxedo pants for a little girl, I couldn't tell you, but I'm so glad I did.  The blog is fun to click on -- probably a little too crafty for someone as glue challenged as myself, but inspiring nonetheless.

Upper West Side, you so pretty (sometimes).

This is from New York Social Diary; I click around on there when I start missing NYC, (and maybe also to remember some reasons I left.)  I LOVE this photo.  It's just so heaven.  The perspective is looking south, along West End Ave on the Upper West Side of Manhattan.

Pourchet bag.

This is my new Pourchet bag.  It's from the Goodwill. For seven dollars!  I'm in love.  So elegant, totally timeless, just so French.  It's sitting at home right now begging to be taken out for a croissant.

One old perfume bottle and a bit of netting.

I LOVE the textures and sense of lightness.  Picture from Ann Wood's website.
Ann Wood's work is unreal.  She makes little birds and little people and other things, using random bits of material.  Here she is highlighting two fav items she found "mudlarking" somewhere near Brooklyn.
