a girl moment

close up on valentine box because i'm obsessed.
i'm having a girl hour ... just totally grateful i get to be a girl today and wear high heels and pink lip stain ... this inspired me to go through some girly pics i took a while back at a shop called Whimsical Whites.  My friend Joleen and I went there on a girl mission:  simply bask in the delightful frivolity of anything pink and old and sweet ... we dug through crispy white linens, fawned over lace ribbons and admired floral arrangements/funkybonnets/ pearl pins, etc.   The owner even served us a sweet treat cake on gorgeous pink milk glass plates and we drank Paris tea with cream.  It was a memorable day from this year, and a fun memory to revisit when i want to go to my inner "girl" place.
flower arrangements on a hunky yummy old farm table ...
the attention to detail on older clothing is just breathtaking sometimes.
old chocolate box ... this was my favorite "piece" in the shop.  the colors and texture seemed so current & unusual.

Pink puff and Shilpa Shetty.

Actress Shilpa Shetty models bridal fashion with Harper's Bazaar, India, back in 2009.  Pretty lady, pretty frocks.  Pretty pretty. *
Hello pink puff, I will always love you.
The star burst beading and light grey blue color of this gown is totally exquisite.
Quintessential bridal.

Love the empire waist and brightness of this dress.

Mostly I included these last two pictures because the styling was so random;
what a bizzare kiddie-skelton-hanging-thing and funny clutter on the dresser?
Obviously I love it all.
*Could not figure out who shot or styled these photos ...

These are all images from the blog "sobinique" ... She is a blogger and this is her home.  I like her dedication to a white, dreamy interior and the touches of flowers all around.

Chanel style sweet treat for your weekend.

These seem totally Lagerfeld, no?  Happy Saturday. The sun is kinda out and I'm about to go bounce around a track and then get coffee with the husband.  Tonight - stuffed pork chops with apricot and almonds.  Also, I think we're going to go look at a waterfall with a dear guitarist man friend from NY.  I think I'll wear my new faux mink scarf.  Holla.

Paris tea and other favorite possessions.

Our new cow skull.  A little avant garde, but it's actually very classic seeming in "real" life.

My pink & navy spot pillows made by Elizabeth.  Amazing.

Blood orange Italian soda.  Delicious with sparkling water and or vodka.

This bird mug is just so.  So awesome.  I still can't believe I found it.  It's unusual and and fragile looking until you cup it in your hand, then it's sturdy and old feeling.  Hello, Goodwill.  Sometimes you do me perfect.

Trader Joe's wheat & herb pizza crust.  I like you.

Decedance.  Belle Pastry in Old Bellevue.  I love that they wrap their pastry boxes with bright pink ribbon.

This is my luxury yummy right now; "paris" tea from Harney & Sons.  It's a black tea with vanilla and caramel flavors, with a hint of lemony bergamot and it comes in "sachets".  Oh, ok, pretty ness.  Totally, utterly divine. Doesn't need sugar or cream or any other sort of fiddling, and in one of my fav cups, it's just dreamy.

Some of my tea cups that make the cut.

Serving an almond tart from (where else?) Belle Pastry, for a lovely lady's 40th birthday.  Whoo hoo.
Another fav has been this embroidered peasant top bc it goes with everything.

Obsessed.  I am completely in awe of this lip stain.  It's the strangest, most wonderful thing ... looks green but goes on pink and stays put.  And looks awesome, with an awesome non-texture feeling.  I think it's from Morocco?  And this is my new zebra stripe-thrifted make-up bag which is suede and feels super lux.  Lastly, but not leastly, this strand of white and gold beads rocks.  It wraps around my wrist and clasps in a sec.  Have barely taken it off since I scored it ...  (bracelet & lip beloved from Margot ... gracias times a thousand. xx)

Rose Cake.

Pictured cake by Ron Ben-Israel .  Photo credit: Ngoc Minh Ngo.
(Clearly our cakes will never turn out this professional, but layering organic rose petals will create a similar look.)

Rose Petal Cake:
This recipe is simple and delicious.  Perfect for a girl thing.

Ingredients:
1 Cup butter softened
1 1/3 cups white sugar
5 very large eggs
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon almond extract
1 1/2 ounces finely chopped almonds
3 teaspoons rose water
2 drops red food coloring
2 cups all purpose flour
Instructions:
Preheat oven to 350 degrees, grease a nine inch tube pan.
Cream the butter very well. In a separate bowl beat sugar and eggs together until they have doubled their volume. Sift the flour and add it along with the salt gradually.
Fold in creamed butter.
Divide batter into two equal parts, in one part add the almond extract and the ground almonds. To the other part add the rosewater and the red food coloring, place batters alternatively into the prepared pan.
Bake at 350 degrees for 50 to 60 minutes. Let cake cool then remove from pan and dust with confectioners sugar.

A thought : if you add just a tad of red food coloring into two cups of whipped cream, you'll have your frosting.  I like to make the top of the cake pink and then decorate with white rose petals.
